Shubham Karoti Kalyanam is the first prayer my parents taught me. It is recited when the diya at the place of worship in the home is lit every morning and every evening. The diya's light dispels not just darkness in the literal sense of the term, but also ignorance and troubles generally. This prayer is also known as the "Deepa Shloka" as it conveys that the light is the medium between you and God, who creates and surrounds you with warmth, thereby shielding you from cold and harm.
शुभं करोति कल्याणम् आरोग्यं धनसंपदा।
शत्रुबुद्धिविनाशाय दीपकाय नमोस्तुते॥
दीपज्योतिःपरब्रह्म दीपज्योतिर्जनार्दनः।
दीपोहरतुमेपापं संध्यादीप नमोस्तुते॥
दिव्यादिव्या दीपत्कार कानींकुंडले मोतीहार।
दिव्यालापाहून नमस्कार॥
तिळाचे तेल कापसाची वात ।
दिवातेऊ देसारीरात ।
दिवा लागला तुळशीपाशी।
उजेड पडला विष्णूपाशी।
माझा नमस्कार देवाधिदेवा तुमच्याचरणांपाशी॥
